On 13 May, we decided to let Jelle go. This was a very difficult decision, one we did not take lightly. Jelle was still in good mental health and he truly enjoyed the moments he spent outdoors. What nobody could see was that he could no longer get in or out of his basket, and if he kicked his blanket away, he couldn’t lie down properly, let alone get up. The slightest obstacle would cause him to collapse. And the worst thing was that he could no longer control his bladder and bowels. Urinating in his basket had been the norm for a while. But when we saw him lying in his own waste twice in a row, we made the decision to say goodbye.
